A very common question from La Jolla patients who visit me at Brucker Plastic Surgery for a breast augmentation consultation understandably, is how much their procedure will cost. Before deciding on a cosmetic procedure, it is important to consider all costs that are involved. In this blog I will break down the categories of costs involved with breast augmentation.
What’s Involved In A Breast Augmentation?
A breast augmentation is medically known as augmentation mammoplasty and is the most popular procedure among women in La Jolla. The main goal of a breast augmentation is to increase the size of a woman’s breasts to one that she feels more comfortable with and fits her frame more proportionately. While many of my breast augmentation patients want to change the size of their breasts because they’ve never been happy with their silhouette, I also see many who seek out breast augmentation because they have lost fullness in their breasts due to the natural process of aging, weight changes, or pregnancy. Breast augmentation adds or restores lost volume, which many patients tell me helps their self-esteem.
How Much Does Breast Augmentation Cost?
I always want my patients to be aware that breast augmentation costs can vary from patient to patient depending on their specific needs. It is also important to point out that average costs do not include costs aside from the surgeon’s fee, such as:
- Anesthesia fees,
- Operating room fees,
- Breast Implant costs,
- Miscellaneous costs such as prescription medication, over-the-counter medication, mammograms, and lab fees.
When considering the cost for your breast augmentation, you should think of it as four main components:
1.Professional Fees
These costs are paid directly to your surgeon.
2. Breast Implant Costs
The cost of your breast implants themselves is not part of the professional fees, and their costs vary. For example, silicone implants are more expensive than saline implants – but there are different costs for different types of silicone implants and saline implants as well. Saline and silicone implants are available in a wide variety of shapes, textures, sizes, and manufacturers, all with differing costs. There are many factors involved in choosing the type, size, and brand of your implants, all which are discussed during your appointment.
This is why we cannot give a one-size-fits-all price quote over the phone without an in-person consultation.
3. Hospital Or Surgical Facility Fees
These fees are billed by and paid directly to surgical facility where your surgery is performed. Surgical facility fees cover the cost of time in the operating room, anesthesia medications, nurses, technicians, and sterile, disposable surgical supplies other than implants that are used during surgery.
- Anesthesia Fees
These are fees paid to the person administering your anesthesia during surgery.
Women in La Jolla should be aware that breast augmentation is usually not covered by insurance since it is elective and not medically necessary. The only time breast augmentation would be covered is after a breast cancer diagnosis and mastectomy or lumpectomy. It is recommended that you review your health insurance policy before undergoing surgery.
Financing Options
I know that for most people, finding the extra money in their budget to pay for a breast augmentation isn’t always easy. This is why we offer a variety of payment options including credit cards and 0% financing to help divide your payments over time.
