Why Do Women Decide to Get a Breast Reduction?

Having oversized breasts can impede your quality of life while also diminishing your self-confidence. You may choose to have your breast size reduced for a number of reasons:

  • To achieve greater proportionality with your other curves.
  • To reduce symptoms like back pain or persistent skin irritation.
  • To make it easier to find clothing and undergarments that fit properly.
  • To feel less self-conscious about your physical appearance.

No matter your reasoning, breast reduction can be an effective way to enhance your comfort and achieve a natural-looking silhouette that you can feel proud of.

The Procedure Process Explained

How Long Does the Procedure Take?

The surgery itself is usually fairly straightforward, with the total procedure lasting around two-and-a-half to three hours. Breast reduction is done on an outpatient basis, which means that you will be discharged to head home and recover the same day.

What is Surgery Like?

Your comfort and safety are paramount, so breast reduction is always done with the help of anesthesia and sedation. We will provide a number of different options to ensure your comfort and address your level of anxiety. During the surgery itself, Dr. Brucker will carefully make small incisions in order to remove fat, glandular tissue, and skin, not only reducing your breast size but also ensuring the proper shape and positioning on the chest.

What Kind of Recovery Process Can I Expect?

Following breast reduction, you will need to rest and recover at home for three to five days. This is usually a fairly easy recovery for most patients, though over-the-counter and prescribed medications are available to help mitigate discomfort as needed. For most patients, the most challenging part of breast reduction recovery is simply avoiding exercise, driving, or lifting your children for a week or so.

Other Things to Consider Before Getting a Breast Reduction

While there is some degree of risk involved with any surgical procedure, there are steps you can take to keep your risk level quite low. A thorough discussion of risks will be conducted during the time of consultation, but start by ensuring you choose a well-qualified surgeon who has a high level of skill and experience, and who provides initial consultations to ensure your eligibility. Following aftercare instructions is also an important way to minimize risk.

For most breast reduction patients, it just takes three to five days to feel back to normal.

While some scarring should be anticipated, Dr. Brucker will choose incision sites carefully to ensure that scars are minimally visible. Following aftercare instructions to the letter will also help keep scarring to a minimum.

Only you can determine whether breast surgery is worth it to you, but we will note that virtually all patients who have this procedure express a very high level of satisfaction.
