What is a Contour TRL Laser Treatment?

As we age, the effects of sun damage and environmental pollutants take their toll on our skin, creating wrinkles and pigment irregularities, especially on our faces. A Contour TRL Laser Treatment is very successful at reducing or eliminating these conditions, and is highly effective in addressing the problematic lines that occur around the mouth and eyes. Contour TRL can be performed on the entire face or just on the areas around the mouth and eyes.

Although there are several different types of laser treatments we offer, the Contour TRL is widely regarded among professionals as the safest, most effective laser available.

How does Contour TRL work?

Contour TRL safely removes a layer of skin to a precise depth determined by Dr. Brucker. The depth of treatment will depend on your skin condition, your desired outcome, and your expectation for downtime. Because Contour TRL can affect tissue with absolute precision down to the micron, Dr. Brucker can treat your skin with the exact amount of energy needed – no more, no less. The laser stimulates the growth of new collagen, which improves the skin’s thickness and resilience. The skin surface will also regenerate fresh, healthy cells which will give your skin a younger, smoother, tighter, and rejuvenated appearance.

What conditions can be treated with Contour TRL?

  • Deep wrinkles (even in difficult to treat areas like around the mouth and eyes)
  • Scars
  • Sun damage
  • Pigmentation irregularity
  • Actinic keratosis
  • Poor skin texture

What areas can be treated with Contour TRL?

Contour TRL can only be performed on the face and neck but we have other laser modalities that can be performed on the body. You should discuss your specific concerns with Dr. Brucker.

How many treatments will I need?

Because Contour TRL is capable of deep laser resurfacing, excellent results are typically achieved after just one treatment.

What will happen during the procedure?

Your skin will be cleansed and your eyes will be protected with safety shields. Dr. Brucker will glide the laser handpiece across your skin and the computer-guided scanner moves the laser beam across the treatment area. Depending on the size of the area being treated, the procedure usually takes only 15 to 30 minutes.

Will it be uncomfortable?

The comfort level of laser resurfacing varies from patient to patient and depends largely on the depth of treatment. For shallow treatments, the procedure may be done with the use of a topical anesthetic. For the majority of patients needing deeper treatments, Dr. Brucker recommends IV sedation for the greatest comfort.

What should I expect after the treatment?

Immediately following the procedure you will experience redness and an intense sensation if heat. Swelling may also occur in the treated areas. Dr. Brucker will advise you on specific after-treatment care recommendations, which will include:

  • Vinegar water soaks
  • Elta MD Laser Balm or Aquaphor ointment
  • Alastin Mineral Tinted Sunblock, Elta MD Sunscreen, or ZO Sunscreen Primer
  • ZO Gentle Cleanser or Cetaphil Cleanser
  • Benev Squalane Oil
  • Benev Essential Lipids and/or Alastin Hydrating Moisturizer or Alastin Skin Nectar
  • Skin bleaching creams if applicable

How long will it take to recover?

Complete healing will depend largely on the depth of treatment. Healing times for shallower treatments are typically 3 to 5 days before resuming normal activities. For deeper treatments, plan on a 2 week recovery.

What aftercare do I need?

You will be given skincare product recommendations and instructions on how to use them. Your skin will be sensitive to sun exposure after the procedure, so you must avoid direct sun exposure until fully healed. It is recommended that you continue using a broad spectrum sunblock such as Elta MD or Alastin Hydratint Pro Mineral with UVA and UVB coverage even after your healing is complete to avoid further damage and premature aging of your skin.

When should I expect results?

The top layer of your skin will regenerate and can be covered with mineral or aloe makeup in about one week, at which time you will see dramatic improvements in your skin’s texture, tone and wrinkle appearance. Deeper laser treatments continue to stimulate the growth of new collagen over the next 4 to 6 months. During this time, the skin will continue to improve in tightness and resilience.
